The Ford Top Cover 4-speed, found in 66 and newer Fords, is the best 4-speed available for all-around driving. The way to spot this trans is by it’s 10 bolt top cover. The small block 4-speed from a 289/302 with a 2.78:1 1st gear is the best choice. This kit comes with a new main shaft splined to accept the stock sleeve in the transfer case, seals, gaskets and a special bushing to be installed in your stock V8 3-speed tail section, which requires minor modification. Crossmember doesn’t need to be relocated and the 3-speed clutch linkage can be kept. Our OLD (discontinued) #2101 4-speed shifter is needed to complete the job.

This adapter plate assembly is used to adapt a Ford 302 / 5.0L to the Jeep NV3550 5 speed transmission. The adapter plate is .920” in length and is manufactured from 356-T6 heat treated aluminum alloy. Included in the adapter plate kit you will receive an adapter plate, new clutch disc, pilot bushing, fastening hardware, and adapter instructions.

Note: This adapter plate design kit requires a Ford truck bell housing.

Transmission
The NV3550 was used in the Jeep TJ Wranglers equipped with the 4.0L engine. The transmission case length is 24.00”. It has a 1-1/8”, 10 spline input shaft with a pilot tip of .750”. The output shaft is a flush 23 spline. The bolt pattern on the face of NV3550 looks identical to the AX15, except for a shift rail that protrudes from the top front of the NV3550.

Our adapter kit for the Ford Truck T & C 4 speed to Bronco Dana 20 will retain the original cast iron, 3 speed manual adapter housing. The adapter housing must measure 9.375” in length, and the adapter housing will need be machined prior to assembly. Our kit will include a new transmission main shaft, bushing, gaskets, seal, and adapter instructions.

Transfer Case

The adapter assembly will fit any 1966-77 Bronco Dana 20 transfer case.

Transmission

This adapter kit is designed for exclusive use with the Ford Truck T & C 4 speed overdrive top loader transmission with a case length of 10.250” and the transmission case is made of aluminum. This transmission is referred as the “RUG” transmission and casting numbers could be 2603606 or 2603729. The “RUG” transmission was used in Ford trucks 1980-89. Additional parts required when using the truck 4 speeds.

Our Ford ZF 5 speed adapter to the Bronco Dana 20 is 1.40” in length. The adapter material is 356 T-6 heat treated aluminum alloy. The adapter kit includes a adapter plate, special spud shaft with 31 internal spline, shifter linkage bracket, transfer case pivot bolt, bearing retainer, sealed bearing snap ring, gaskets, o-ring, fastening hardware and adapter instructions.

Transfer Case

The adapter assembly will fit any 1966-77 Bronco Dana 20 transfer case. This adapter will only work with the “T” style shifter. Transfer cases with a “J” style linkage will require modifications to retain this linkage. This cast iron, gear driven case has a low range of 2.46:1 and a front output shaft on the driver’s side.

Transmission

The kit is designed for exclusive use with the Ford ZF 5 speed manual transmission ( ZF S542 & S547). This heavy duty 5 speed is all aluminum with an integral bellhousing to the case. It can be easily identified by it’s diamond-shape casting ribs and a small 4-bolt top cover. The S542 was used in Ford trucks 1987-94 and the S547 1995 to present.

This setup will give a Bronco a super low 1st gear approximately double that of the stock 3-speed. The NP435 can be found in 67-83 F100-F350. The T18 can be found in 68-82 F100-F250. The trans you select must have a 28 spline output shaft. The new overall length of the NP435 and the adapter will directly replace the original V8 assembly, so no driveshaft modification is necessary. The T18 and adapter are approximately 1” longer than the original V8 assembly so driveshaft mods are necessary. This kit includes a machined aluminum adapter housing, gaskets and bolts. The gearshift handle will have to be rebent to come out under the dash. Mods to the floorboard will also be necessary.

4 to 1 low first gear and .22% overdrive means excellent driveability both on and off road. This transmission is great as a daily driver and weekend wheeler. Smoother shifting than the NV4500 it provides a less “truck like” feel. Its smaller overall size lends itself easily to swapping in without the need for relocating the transfer case or driveline changes. This transmission has a 300 lb.-ft Torque rating with a 7,200# Gross Vehicle Weight rating (11,000# GCW). Required to do this swap is an adapter from the transmission to a stock bellhousing complete with clutch disk and an adapter to the transfercase with shifter bracket, cross member mounting kit, shifter knob and shifter handle. A 1” body lift eases installation. We can supply the transmission for these as well.
