Information

Bolt-on horsepower and torque with these short-tube headers by Drake. These headers are designed to fit 1966-77 Broncos with 289/302/5.0 motors with ample clearance for most modified suspensions.

They are engineered to make strong power and torque throughout the RPM range with smooth mandrel-bent 1-1/2" primaries and 2.5" collectors. Manufactured with heavy-duty features like extra-thick 3/8" laser-cut flanges to guard against warping and heavy-wall 16 gauge tubing for maximum durability.

Includes hardware, laminated metal core gaskets, and heavy-duty ball and socket flanges for a leak-proof installation. Includes o2 Ports in Collectors for EFI conversion.

Features

Available in durable high-temp black paint, 304 Stainless Steel, or Ceramic Coated.

FAQ

Q: What add-ons should I consider before purchasing these headers?
A: If you are purchasing the raw stainless finish. We highly suggest wrapping the headers in heatshield products lava wrap to keep the heat out of the engine bay. For a trouble-free installation, we recommend using our #3082 premium header bolts and #3050 premium header gaskets.

Q: What is the difference between the Silver Ceramic and Black Cerakote options?
A: Silver Ceramic resists temperatures up to 1600° F, Black Cerakote resists up to 2300° F. Black Cerakote is more durable.

Q: Do you have an exhaust system that is compatible with this system?
A: Yes they are compatible with 3095, 3095-SS, 3060, and 3062.

Q: What modifications are required to install these headers?
A: If you are installing these with a standard 289/302/c4/3 speed combo then these will be pretty much hassle-free with some mechanical knowledge.

Q: What upgrades should I consider when purchasing?
A: For a trouble free installation we highly recommend our premium header bolts #3082 & remflex gaskets #3050.

Q: Will these work on aftermarket cylinder heads and aftermarket windsor based engines?
A: As long as the cylinder head uses the factory manifold/header mounting bolt pattern

Q: I want to buy ceramic or cerakote headers for my new engine will that be a problem?
A: If your new engine requires a break-in period when first fired up then you do NOT want to install new ceramic or cerakote coated headers. use a pair of old manifolds or headers for break-in.

Q: How will I know if my new engine needs to be broken in?
A: If the new or rebuilt engine has a new flat tappet cam installed, it will need to be broke in.  If the new or rebuilt engine has any roller cam it does NOT require a break-in

Compatibility

NEVER USE CERAMIC HEADERS TO BREAK IN AN ENGINE

  • Will not work on P heads without modification to some of the primary pipes.
  • Will work with our Dual Exhaust Kit #3095, requires adapter pipes #3069

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT DRAKE SHORTY HEADERS ON A 351W

  • Shorty headers will make contact with the inner passenger fender and will require some shaping/bending of the passenger side's two rear primary tubes or inner fender (or let it rub...) 😉 More information on the modifications required is listed in the product instructions.
  • On some Broncos, the collector flange will make contact with the frame and need to be clearanced. If you are using aftermarket motor mounts that are taller, this may not be an issue.

5 reviews for Shorty Headers 289/302/5.0 1966-77 Bronco

  1. Todd Briski (verified owner)

I purchased the ceramic coated shorties they are beautiful look great on My 302 and sound great.

  2. Kevin (verified owner)

High quality product at a great price. Worked as expected, I ended up with ceramic coated since stainless was backordered and I’m glad I did. Fit great but I did have to trim corner off the motor mount on the driver’s side and also excess casting on my AOD on the passengers side. Very satisfied

  3. Vann Jones (verified owner)

I replaced a 1993 set of K bar S long headers with this short set. This allowed me to gain clearance around my M5OD R2 / Dana 20 / Adapter kit with special cross member. These are high quality and work great for this application.

  4. Joe (verified owner)

Substantial and really nice looking. Time will tell as to the durability of the ceramic finish, but initial impressions are high.

  5. james riseborough (verified owner)

I was originally looking for long tube headers but was afraid of the floor getting way to hot ( I am building a 69 Beach cruiser.) I purchased these shorties not sure how they would fit but they are perfect. I am running a 351W and I couldn’t be more happy with them, lots of space, easy in easy out. Thx, James
